Eliana, Our Au Pair

When we found out we were having twins, we started to question our childcare situation.
We always figured when we had a second baby, it would join Harper at her school.
Well, 2 babies is super expensive and a bit of a game changer.
Plus, the odds of them coming early was pretty high...and daycare made me nervous for 3 month old premies.
After interviewing a local nanny, we had family friends suggest an Au Pair (international live-in nanny).  We had considered this before, but never really looked into it.
Once we were in contact with an Au Pair agency, we realize this might be our best option.
At this point, the boys were 4 weeks old and my maternity leave was getting shorter and shorter. We skyped with Eliana (from Colombia) and decided she was right for us. We skyped one more time and emailed almost every day.
The weeks leading up to her arrival were filled with excitement, anxiety, and questions.
Eliana "Eli" traveled to the US on Tuesday, May 27th and went to Au Pair school through our agency.
She flew to TN on Saturday, May 31.
I spent weeks (off and on b/c I also had newborn twins) working on Eli's room. Her favorite color is green, so we kept the accent wall in the bedroom and I made pillows to match. We got new bedding, I painted a chair, desk, and printed pictures of her family from her FB page. We were ready!
Harper made a sign for Eli and we had American flags and Boa's to welcome her.
Harper warmed to her immediately.
She seemed so excited to be here...even though we didn't say much.
She speaks better English than I do Spanish...but we also have an iphone app if we find ourselves in a bit of confusion.
After Eli settled in, she came upstairs with gifts for us.
She brought the kids personalized Colombian jerseys, Josh some coffee, and me candy and a bag!
They are adorable.
After dinner at home, we took Eli for a sweet treat at Sweet Cece's.
Then, we spent the next two weeks getting to know each other, learning the ways of the house, getting bank account, phone, ss card, and drivers permit.
All 3 kids really love her.

We feel so blessed to have Eli.  It is better than either of us could have imagined.
