Happy New Year!
As we start preparing for our new additions, we have decided to transition Harper to her big girl room, eh, big girl stuff. We originally planned on moving her into the bigger guest bedroom at the end of the hall, but after finding out it was twins, we realized she is staying put. Even though it is our smallest bedroom, it makes the most sense (two cribs wont work in there, closer to the bathroom, and farther from the babies, and she is used that room as hers).
Here are pictures of her room before she was born (Clean and Tidy):
We have made a few changes over the last 2 years, but you get the idea.
So just before the new year, we started putting together her new room. It's kind of tricky when you have to move the crib out and a big girl bed in. We weren't sure how she would handle it...but it was like ripping a band-aid.
Harper was really into helping. She loved helping me pour water in the dented carpet and "fluffing" it back up. She also loved measuring everything in her room. Whatever kept her occupied! :)
Once we got the crib out, the first thing to do was build the bed.
I am so glad I have a handy husband! B/c I can't do much, I was glad he was able to do most on his own.
We decided on a day bed b/c it fits well in that room (just where the crib was) and I thought it would be a nice transition from the crib. Since it has 3 sides, it keeps Harper, and her stuff inside the bed. We have a toddler rail on the side. She can still get in and out, but to me, this feels like a giant crib.
SHE LOVES IT!
SHE LOVES IT!
We also kept her name on the wall. Originally, the color scheme was bright pink, yellow, and navy...but we have kept a few pale pink items and this was one. I love that decal and just don't think I can ever take it off the walls!
Daddy likes Harper's new bed too.
Oh and side note, it has a trundle for future slumber parties or restless nights.
We figured once the boys arrived, she might regress some...and having that extra sleeping spot might come in handy.
She slept great in her bed the first night!
YAY HARPER!
We moved her new mirror in the corner and moved out the glider. She loves dressing up and checking herself out!
We took her curtains down and decided to go with a shade and valance. The fabric on her valance inspired the color scheme of the room...that and the fact that I was given great yellow furniture for her room.
Handy Daddy!
Here are a few night time shots of the big girl room (we painted the white spots by the valance, btw).
Harper seems to really love her new room (she is looking at her baby on the floor).
Now for the full room tour in the daylight:
The first thing you see is her bed. We aren't making her bed right now b/c she doesn't like covers. We are keeping the bedding bunched down at the bottom...it also acts like a blocker to the exit.
Her basket of boys, frank the horse, and mirror fill the space where her glider was.
From the opposite side of the wall, you can see her room as you enter it. I just love the "LOVE" painting.
Her room seems like it has a lot going on from the pictures, but it seems more subtle in person.
We gave her a little reading nook, topped off with a custom Tennessee pillow. I love the masculine style of the chair mixed in with all her girly stuff. I also love her Kendall Boggs original painting above the mirror.
The final project for this room was the light fixture. I wanted to add something fun to her lighting and this was perfect...and free! :) She told me it's her favorite part of her new room. I love that she loves it. She seems very proud to show off her new room. We play in there a little more and spend more time letting her make decisions in her room. I know that eventually, she will want to get away from her brothers, so I hope she finds this to be the best retreat! It really was a labor of love for me.
Next Up: The Nursery.
We are no where near being finished, but here is a sneak peak of what's to come for the boys.
We have decided on a nautical theme with Navy and Seafoam Blue/Green accents.
These frames will eventually have the boys stats listed (Harper's is on her dresser).
A few nautical accents to get Josh excited about "nursery decor". ha!
Once we have more complete, I will post pictures!
Over our holiday break, we took a small break from room decorating to figure out the stroller situation. We found an incredible deal at Bargain Hunt on a Joovy Snap N Go stroller. We liked this one the most b/c the boys will be side by side instead of both facing us. We also found a generic glider attachment for Harper.
I was pleasantly surprised when it didn't hit my feet on it once pushing it around the basement. She loved riding on it and kept asking Daddy to push her. Since Harper likes to push the grocery cart and doesn't love her stroller anymore, we knew this would be perfect.
"It's ok cheerleader" - Harper
She is a little mommy already.
This whole thing is slightly overwhelming! :)
